A Simple Test for Whether a Brand Strategy Is Credible

A brand strategy can sound impressive while remaining strategically weak.

To evaluate credibility, leaders should apply three simple tests:

  1. Is it differentiated? Does the positioning clearly separate the company from alternatives?
  2. Is it believable? Can customers realistically trust the claim being made?
  3. Can operations sustain it? Does the business consistently deliver the experience the brand promises?

When one of these dimensions is missing, positioning becomes fragile.

A brand promise unsupported by execution eventually turns into reputational debt.
